Penny Mueller, Board President-Penny has majors in Agronomy-specializing in soil science and Horticulture with a minor in Organic/Sustainable Agriculture. For the last several years, she has worked in sustainable regenerative agriculture helping farmers and land owners with grazing and conservation practices. Penny has run a Community Supported Agriculture network, served with international and state non-profits. Her love for horses began at an early age. She found Firefly Acres after an illness and feels she knows the benefits of Equine Therapy and Parelli Natural Horsemanship first hand. Her favorite saying is, “There’s nothing better than the smell of a horse!”
Janice Kaat, Treasurer-Janice is a published author and once ran a newspaper. Originally from Sheboygan, Janice has embraced many volunteer opportunities in the Green Bay community. She gives the ministry of Firefly Acres Horse Farm credit for helping her find joy after losing her son. She can frequently be found training horses or working on the organizations financial records. Janice will walk across the US, from California to Maine in 2018 to raise funds for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in memory of her great nephew.
Carol Manning, Member at Large- Carol is a Green Bay native who has aided local charities her whole life. From March of Dimes and MDA to Curative and the Alzehimer Day Care Wrap Around program where she provided job coaching for people with special needs, Carol has always been one to give of her time to benefit others. One of her highlights was meeting her “Forever Friend Angie” while volunteering at ASPIRO. Through her involvement with attorneys doing supervised visitation for children and families, she has now been a volunteer driver for Brown Count Human Services for 25 years, winning the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2011. Carol is also part of the Foster Grandparent Program where she works one on one with children that need help with emotional and social development. She serves with Firefly Acres because she has seen the impact on people from all walks of life and how they have been helped with the love and caring support of the organization.
Julie Pyne Van Hoosen, Secretary-Julie was Executive Director of a non-profit for 3 years and has been involved in volunteering for and supporting Christian non-profits for decades. As a parent of a special needs child, Julie has appreciated first hand the role horsemanship has had on her own son as well as how it can impact people from all walks of life. Julie owns Julie Pyne Golf and teaches golf full time.
Pat Pelky, Member at Large-Pat has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Resource Management from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. He has been Division Director of the Oneida Nation Environmental, Health & Safety Division for over 20 years. In 2009, he joined the Board of Firefly Acres Horse Farm, as his wife, Lisa, was founding the organization and establishing the 401(c)(3) status.
Mary Rochon, Member at Large-Mary has been with Associated Trust Company since 2008. Her professional career spans over 40 years with experience in banking, finance, school administration, quality control using nondestructive techniques, and legal services. Mary believes that Jesus taught us to love one another and treat people as we want to be treated. Though not a horse person herself, she appreciates Lisa and Pat’s passion for abused-neglected horses and pairing them with wounded individuals. Since coming to the farm, she has become better acquainted with horses and is developing a bond, lessening and hopefully eliminating those fears.
Lisa Pelky, President and Founder of Firefly Acres– An Assisted Equine Specialist, Lisa brings a wealth of experience in horse training, personal coaching and mentoring. She is trained in Parelli Natural Horsemanship and has single handedly brought the seven rescued horses back to full physical health and continues to bring them along in their emotional development and trust of their human friends.
Heather Swiatnicki, Client Representative-Heather began as a client of Firefly Acres Horse Farm and continued as a volunteer on the farm. Heather is currently employed with Innovative Services in Green Bay.
